Becoming a Certified Fundamental Swim Instructor

Fundamentals First. Safety Always.

Cost: $110 for USSSA members/ $330 for non-members
(Background Check and CPR Certification is NOT included.)

Step 1: Apply for Certification

Begin here! Complete this simple form and pay for your Certification.
All required courses will automatically appear in your Learning Plan for you to complete when you are ready.

Step 2: Complete Courses

Complete these 3 courses in your learning plan:

  • USSSA Fundamental Swim Instructor Online Training Course
  • USSSA Creating Next Level Baby Teachers (formally Infant-Toddler Course)
  • USSSA Play with Purpose Online Course

Step 3: Submit Exam Prerequisites

These documents need to be uploaded and approved before you can take the Exam:

  • Background check report (if over 18)
  • Valid, current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Signed attestation form proving 30 hours of in-water training (Get the forms here PDF or Online)

Be sure to use the same email you used when you signed up for the CFSI.

Step 4: Take the Exam!

Once your Pre-Reqs are approved by our staff, you will get an email inviting you to schedule your Exam! (Online exam with live proxy, one take.)
