Megan Didulo, an Aquatic Occupational Therapist and founder of All-Inclusive Aquatics, has a unique approach to water safety and swim instruction. Her journey, detailed in Meet Megan Didulo: A Passion for Inclusion in Aquatics, began while she was still in graduate school with a vision to create adaptive swim lessons for children and adults with developmental and intellectual differences. Through her program, Megan helps individuals develop gross motor skills and gain independence in the aquatic environment. Additionally, she supports new occupational therapy graduates and students, immersing them in this specialized field.
Though Megan has been a member of the US Swim Schools Association (USSSA) for less than a year, her dedication to water safety and inclusion has already made an impact. She joined the association because of its conferences and opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals who share her passion for water safety. Megan recently attended her first USSSA conference in September and found it to be an invaluable experience. It deepened her knowledge and provided her with a chance to grow her network within the aquatic community.
The impact of All-Inclusive Aquatics extends beyond Megan’s professional achievements—it touches the lives of the families she works with. One parent, whose child is on the Autism Spectrum, shared a heartwarming story. After just one session, the parent noticed a significant change in their child’s demeanor, describing it as a magical moment. The child, who previously struggled with extracurricular activities, felt safe, comfortable, and proud of their abilities. This inclusive environment, created by Megan and her team, provided the child with a positive experience that carried through into the following days.
Megan’s dedication to her swim school and the community doesn’t stop there. As a recent recipient of the USSSA conference scholarship, she’s eager to further her understanding of running a swim school, particularly because of her limited experience in business and leadership roles. Her previous management experience at a small community pool in Omaha, Nebraska, laid the foundation, but Megan is ready to take her swim school to the next level.
Looking ahead, Megan envisions expanding All-Inclusive Aquatics beyond Omaha. Her school currently serves over 100 children and adults each week, with more than 90% of participants having diagnoses like Autism Spectrum Disorder or Down syndrome. Families are willing to travel great distances—some driving over 1.5 hours one way each week—because of the unique programs Megan offers. She is in the process of developing a swim curriculum that incorporates therapeutic techniques and swim skills, and she hopes to share this innovative approach at future USSSA events.
Megan’s passion for inclusion and adaptive swim lessons is evident in everything she does. Her advice for other swim schools and professionals considering joining the USSSA? “Never be afraid to work with a swimmer who isn’t typically developing! They can learn to swim and enjoy the water just as much as any other child.”
