With summer in full swing, now is a great time to revisit an important water safety topic: floaties.
The United States Swim School Association (USSSA) was proud to serve as a resource for a recent New York Times Wirecutter article exploring risks of floatie overuse and why they can sometimes create a false sense of security in the water.
The article explains why floaties are not a substitute for water competency, close adult supervision, or quality swim lessons. It also offers practical guidance for families on choosing safer flotation options to use as an additional layer of protection when needed.
At USSSA, we’re committed to helping families make informed decisions that lead to safer experiences in and around the water. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to read this excellent article and share it with parents, caregivers, and anyone who spends time with young children around the water.
